An International Freight Forwarder required electric vehicle charging points at their distribution centre to charge the first electric truck on UK roads. The equipment had to deliver a minimum of 200kW of power via a CCS connector and 43kW via a type 2 AC connector.
To future proof the installation with the plans to increase the fleet of trucks, they also required a multiple connector arrangement with simultaneous charging capabilities.
The company is using Rapid Charge’s secure software portal to control access to EV charging, monitor usage and have the option to set custom electricity tariffs and recharge electricity usage. Rapid Charge’s Charge point Monitoring Team can monitor the SIM card connected charge points and remotely perform simple fixes and issue down the line updates. This reduces the need for on-site maintenance and minimises inconvenience.
Rapid Charge, who offer a fully managed service from initial consultation through to surveying, installation and maintenance, were able to provide a state of the art charging units that enables a secure and tracked usage arrangement.
As the site was located in a very high security and safety conscious compound and our civils, electrical and communication Team had to comply with a very stringent protocol to complete the installation.
The charging units enable the company to charge the electric truck with a high power Rema cable that can deliver 200kW in a single charge, and it will ensure the 278kW battery vehicle is at full capacity within 1 hour 30 minutes and the Swarco 43kW will deliver a slower charge in 7 hours.
Using Rapid Charge’s back office , the company can set custom tariffs and monitor usage of the charge points, this is an integral part of the services offered as there is a landlord tenant arrangement as all electricity billed has to be rebilled. It also provides the company with a view of the electricity consumed to establish a comparison against their combustion fuel vehicles
